8 Months and Double Trouble

By thepeckfamily

This post is actually a few days old…I had to hold off on publishing it until we took her pictures.  I initially wrote it on Thursday.  Since then, we had to take Graceyn BACK to the doctor because her ears weren’t getting any better (they really seemed worse) so she’s now on a stronger antibiotic and was back to her normal 8 hours of sleep before waking up last night.  YAY!  But here’s what I wrote on Thursday…

Yesterday was Graceyn’s 8 month “birthday”…it’s hard to believe!!!  Unfortunately, we had to take her to the doctor again because her viral cold from last week has now turned into ear infections in BOTH ears.  (FYI moms:  symptoms were runny nose, slight fever, and a rash). Poor baby hasn’t been able to sleep well and was playing with her ears alot so we thought it was time to call.  And it was good that we did.  She’s on antibiotics now so hopefully they’ll be all better soon!  Thankfully they don’t seem to bother her too much while she’s awake…it’s mostly when she’s laying down. So she spent part of last night in her car seat and the other part sleeping on Gram while reclined on the couch.  The doc said that would relieve some of the pressure.

So anyway, the only advantage of taking her to the doctor was that we were able to see her weight gain again.  She’s at 15lbs 5oz…still a lightweight but healthy :)  Yesterday was also the first time she clapped audibly.  She’s been throwing her hands together for a long time now but not with them open enough to make a sound…until last night.  It was pretty fun.  She’s eating more and more solid foods, now at all 3 meals.  So far she hasn’t had a food she didn’t like :)  We did find out yesterday that she’s allergic to carrots just like her mama…her little bottom turned red and we could tell it really hurt when we changed her diaper and gave her a bath. Not a very good month birthday!

Other things she starting to do…she’s using our hands to pull herself up all the time.  And we can tell her legs have gotten stronger, even in the past week.  We’ve gotten her on her hands and knees a couple of times.  She’ll stay there and rock for a minute but then goes right back onto her tummy.  She’s talking a ton and we honestly think she tried to say “quack” with my parents.  They were playing with a duck puppet and kept saying it over and over.  And Graceyn starting going “ca ca ca” and looking for it.  Maybe we’re giving her too much credit but I don’t know :)  Up until last week when she got sick again, she was also sleeping through the night finally! Her normal routine is bed around 8:30, then she’ll sleep until 5 or 6.  At that point, sometimes I can get her back to sleep in her crib for an hour or 2.  If not, she’ll come in and sleep in our bed, usually until around 7 or so.

I think that’s about it for this month’s update!  We’ll go back to the doc in a couple of weeks for them to check her weight and her ears to make sure the infection is completely gone…hopefully after that, we’ll be back to regular checkups with no more weight checks!  Although, I do have to admit I’ve enjoyed knowing her exact weight so often :)

Here she is in her chair!

I totally understand about the monthly weight checks — Karis has been having them since 6 months. I think we just have skinny girls :) Graceyn is beautiful — I love her curls! Hope she keeps sleeping through the night for ya!
